The Ganesha Museum

The Ganesha God is widely respected in Thailand, especially those whose careers are related to the arts. In Chiang Mai's Doi Lor Sub-District, 41 kilometres from the city, exists a private museum called "Ganesha Museum", owned by Mr. Banthorn Teerakanont, one of Thailand's Ganesha God leading devotees.

Wat Rong Khun

I have often wondered why so many visitors are drawn to the Wat Rong Khun and why it has become a major topic of conversation around town. I recently made a visit to this spectacular temple initiated by one of Thailand's famous artists, Chalermchai Kositpipat, who has devoted his life for this mega art project in honour of His Majesty the King.

Lampang Horse Drawn Carriages

On March 28, our Muantae team boarded the 9.20 a.m. Chiang Mai - Nakornsawan ordinary train to Lampang, a charming small and historical town located just 100 kilometers southeast of Chiang Mai. Four third class non air-conditioned coaches made up the entire convoy. A one-way ticket costs us 23 baht. It turned out that we stopped at every little train station on the way and the seemingly short distance took three long dusty, hot and muggy hours. The monotony was broken up by watching the extremely arid and burnt out countryside passing by outside and at the variety of the other passengers which were mostly Thai families on vacation, the usual assortment of foreign back-packers, and vendors peddling their never boring mixtures of local foods.

The Wisdom of Lanna Arts and Craftsman 2007



April 1-28, CMU Art Museum

The Chiang Mai University (CMU)’s Art Museum, in cooperation with the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, the Chiang Mai Cultural Office, and the Lanna Craftsman Club, is holding a cultural exhibition entitled “The Wisdom of Lanna Arts and Craftsman 2007” (Tam Heed Toei Hoy Sala Muang) from April 1 to April 28 at the CMU Art Museum in Chiang Mai. The exhibition and cultural events are aimed at honouring His Majesty the King on his 80th birthday anniversary and promoting the Northern Thai culture during the Thai New Year of Songkran Festival.
